KUNG FU

Kung fu is a combination of two words. Kung means Hard Work and Fu means Achievement. So Kung Fu means anything achieved through hard work or training for certain period of time. It can be anything from learning self defense skills to learning cooking skills. Everything is Kung Fu. So right from eating to sleeping is also a kind of kung fu if done with little concentration.

MIXED KUNG FU (My Kung Fu… My Way)

In today’s modern world where fighting skills and their rules have changed a lot, so we cannot stick with any particular fighting style because any particular fighting style fails in one or the other situation. Today’s need is to have a system which can challenge any situation. So after a lot of research I have developed a system which I call it as Mixed Kung Fu (My Kung Fu…My way).

Mixed Kung Fu is nothing but a mixture of Kung Fu + San Shou + Muay Thai + Wrestling+ Chin Na’s to cover all aspects of fighting, removing the unessential part of styles and utilizing only the essential and practical stuff.

I am deeply impressed by one of the Master Bruce Lee’s philosophy ”Always be yourself, express yourself, have faith in yourself, do not go out and look for a successful personality and duplicate it”.

CONCEPT OF MIXED KUNG FU

STANCES:

There are three stances of fighting and lot of variations of these stances: Actually there are two stances of fighting, but I say it as three. Because one should know to kick and punch with both, the lead and rear Leg/ hand. Lead kick/ punch is for attacking with speed and rear kick/ punch is for attacking with power.

  • Side leg stance with right leg forward.

  1. Side leg stance with left leg forward.
  2. Normal stance with both leg at the same level as we usually stand. This stance is little risky stance but can        never be avoided.

VARIATIONS: After learning stances, one should be Stance less. It means after learning one must not be fixed to these stances. Because one do not gets times to make a stance when fight happens. One must know how to fight in any kind of stance.

STANCE GAP:

Stance gap can be narrow stance or wide stance.

Narrow stance: Stance at a gap of little more than shoulder width.

Wide Stance: This is a stance used in wrestling or traditional martial arts of Kung Fu.

Please note that wide stance is more balanced stance than narrow stance. But attacks speed get slower in wide stance. However narrow stance is more mobile and helps in achieving speed. So one should know when to make a wide stance and narrow stance in fight.

DEFENSE:

Best defense is that defense in which blocking can be done safely without wasting a lot of energy and chances of getting attacked is least.

  • Four ways of circular defense.

  1. Two types of breaking defense using the energy of the opponent’s attack to hit him
  2. Blind defense mainly used for multiple opponents.
  3. Two ways/ sides of getting in.
  4. Block hit Block Drills.
  5. Block and attack at the same time.
  6. Direct attack.
  7. Ducking

MOVEMENTS:

  • Star theorem movements.

  1. Changing leg movement.
  2. Circular arc movement.
  3. Single side movement.
  4. Slipping and ducking movements.
  5. Complete movements usually to come at the back of the opponent.

ATTACKS:

Attacks usually involve use of following things in combos.

  • Punches- Boxing Punches, Short Punches, Star theorem attacks, Hammer attacks and combos, Palm                  attacks and combos, Slash Attacks, Extended Knuckle attack, etc.

  1. Kicks- Lead leg kicks (From Sanda and Kung Fu), Rear leg kicks (From Muay thai), Low leg kicks.
  2. Elbows- Use of Thai elbow techniques and star theorem attacks.
  3. Knees- Use of Thai Knee attacks.
  4. Locks- Use of 32 Chin Na system.
  5. Tearing- Use of tiger gripping and tearing techniques.
  6. Miscellaneous: Hip attack, Shoulders attack, Head attacks, scratching, pinching, biting, poking, etc.

ATTACK CONCEPTS:

  • Pressure point attack. For best attack, knowledge of Body’s pressure points should be known. Also       what kind of attacks will be best for any particular pressure point should be known.
  1. Attack in combos.
  2. Attack before one hits.
  3. Attack after blocking.
  4. Block and attack at the same time.
  5. Destroying the Root.
  6. Destroying the Hands.
  7. Faking.
  8. Dosing attacks
  9. Full power attacks.
  10. Combos of Light attack (for speed) and heavy attack (for power).

Some of the pressure points are:

Upper part of the Body-

  • Head Points: Crown, Temple, Eyes, Nose, Lips, Chin, Jaws, Ears, Hairs, Point below the ear.
  • Neck points: Throat, Side of the neck, Back of the neck and Wind Pipe.

Middle part of the body-

  • Chest and stomach- Solar Plexus, Ribs, Kidney, Spleen, Liver, Heart, Collar Bone, etc.
  • Hands- Fingers, Back of the palm, Wrist joint, Elbow Joint, Armpits, Biceps, Triceps, Shoulder joints etc.
  • Back part of body- Spine, Kidney

Lower part of the body-

  • Groin, Thigh and Middle body part joint, Outer Thighs, Inner Thighs, Middle Thighs, Knee joint, Back of the        knee, Calf’s, Shin, Ankle Joint, Foot, etc.

CHIN NA’S (ART OF LOCK AND CONTROL)

Chin Na's can be applied in following ways:

  • Directly locking an opponent.
  1. Locking while applying combos.
  2. Locking and Breaking Bones, destroying tissues and arteries of the opponent.

THROWS AND TAKEDOWNS

Catching, throwing and takedowns taken from San Shou.

GROUND FIGHTING

Wrestling, Judo Chokes and holds and submissions.

FIGHT TRAINING:

Practicing drills without applying it in fight is useless. As Master Bruce Lee said- “Knowing is not enough; we must apply. Willing is not enough: we must do.”

So sparing regularly is of utmost importance to master your techniques. Don’t ever dare to think that you can apply your techniques in real life situations without fighting in your club. However a safe sparing is necessary to avoid injuries. Sparing can be done in many ways and with different- different rules. Sparing must be done with gloves and without gloves also.

                      WEAPONS

While learning any weapon, one must know that Body is the most dangerous weapon in this world. So while using a weapon one should never forget to use his body as a weapon. Weapon is nothing but a mere extension of the hand. Best defense against any weapon is that defense in which your chance of getting attacked is minimum. One can do risky defense while fighting a person without weapon. But while defending against any weapon, the whole idea of defense gets changed. You have to be on more safer side.

There are mainly four kinds of weapons:

  • Short Range Weapons like Knife, Tonfa, Sai,         Pen, Pencil, Needle etc.

  1. Middle Range Weapons like Short Sticks              (Escrima), Short Sword, Dagger etc.

  1. Long range Weapons like Long Stick                      (Laathi), Rods etc.

  1. Projectile weapons like Guns, Stones etc.

The weapon’s we teach are as follows:

  • Bo Staff/ Long Stick
  • Short Sticks
  • Nanchaku
  • Tonfa
  • Knife
  • Sword
  • Belt

There are three stages of learning a weapon

  • Weapons vs Empty hands.
  • Weapon vs same weapon.
  • Weapon vs any other weapon like Short              stick vs  Knife vs Long Stick vs Sword, etc.

These are the drills to be learned while using any weapon

  • Blocks with weapon.
  • Attack Combos.
  • Block and attack.
  • Attack and lock or break bones.
  • Attack and throw and Kill.
  • Attack till death using short and heavy                  power combos.
  • Attack using both. Your weapon and your            body as a weapon.
  • Self defense against multiple opponents.
